Development permits are required in Putnam County in order to regulate flood plain development in unincorporated areas and land use in zoned areas. By applying for a development permit, the planning office can determine if your structure will be located in the 100-year flood plain. If it is, you will need to obtain an elevation certificate and build your home at the proper elevation in order to obtain flood insurance from the National Flood Insurance Program. If you live in a municipality, call your Town Hall for assistance. If you live outside a municipality, contact the Office of Planning & Infrastructure.

    FEES:

    • RESIDENTIAL--single family and two-family or duplex structures outside the 100-year flood plain $30.00 Inside the 100-year flood plain $1.00 per $1,000 of construction cost ($30.00 minimum)
    • RESIDENTIAL--multi-family structures of three or more units in non-zoned areas $1.00 per $1,000 of construction cost ($30.00 minimum) - in zoned areas $1.50 per $1,000 of construction costs ($30.00 minimum)
    • COMMERCIAL/INDUSTRIAL--$1.00 per $1,000 of construction cost ($30.00 minimum) in non-zoned areas - in zoned areas $1.50 per $1,000 of construction costs
