NEXT MEETING:
Regular monthly meetings are held on the
second Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. although at this time there may be 2
meetings scheduled for each month. Call 586-0237 for details.

COMMISSION

Comprised of five residents appointed by the County Commission. Advisory and associate members also welcome.

Meets on the second Monday of each month at the Putnam County Courthouse,
second floor, room 232, 3389 Winfield Road, Winfield, WV. - NOTE: in the event
the second Monday falls on a holiday or when the courthouse will be closed,
the commission will either schedule the meeting for the Tuesday following the
second Monday or the third Monday on that month. In either case, the
meeting date will be published on this website as soon as
possible.
All meetings are open to the public.

Responsible for identification, inventory, nomination, preservation and restoration of historically and architecturally significant structures in Putnam County.

A 2000 Putnam County Historic Calendar was printed and free copies are still
available (originally $8
each) at the Office of Planning and Infrastructure, Putnam County Courthouse,
Winfield, second floor.

A project began in 1999, and is currently being continued, for the selection of historic photographs for framing and
hanging in the hallways of the Putnam County Courthouse. The selections
are made from historic photographs of Putnam County submitted by the public.
Anyone who would like to submit a historic photograph of Putnam County for
consideration may do so at the Office of Planning and Infrastructure, Putnam
County Courthouse, Winfield, second floor. For more information call

The Putnam County Courthouse in Winfield was placed on the National Register of Historic
Places in July 2000. The Historic Landmark Commission prepared the
survey and nomination forms for submission to the State Historic Preservation
Office.

Recently HLC members and county officials were involved in the relocation of
the Hoge house from US35, Winfield Road, to a lot at the rear of the Putnam
County Courthouse complex.

The HLC received a grant of $5,000 in early 2006 for the
Nomination of the Hoge House to the National Register of Historic Places. A
consultant, Michael Pulice, was hired in August 2006 for that nomination.
